In 1998 two school leavers with a passion and love for the outdoors joined forces and created AC Gardens. Nine years later in 2007 the love for the industry took Phil around the world, to gain valuable experience and qualifications, managing a residential and commercial division for the largest arboricultural company in Australasia.
The business was left in the capable hands of James and Tony (Brother and Dad). In the years that have followed James and Tony have grown a family business built on reputation. They pride themselves as being honest and hardworking, with the ethos that costumers should receive the highest quality service for a fair price.
AC Gardens boasts a large returning client base in West Sussex and surrounding areas, supported by over 130 reviews on CheckaTrade. With the return of Phil in 2020 the family is looking forward to expanding and continuing to work by the mantra “Family business, built on reputation”

Phil Arthur
Founder
After starting A C Gardens back in 1998, Phil then moved to New Zealand in 2007. He started working for a reputable tree company and quickly worked his way up into management, Phil was then head hunted by for the largest arboricultural company in Australasia where he project managed both residential and commercial divisions, whilst in New Zealand he gained his level 4 in arboriculture. 2 years before returning to the UK he moved into Arboricultoral consulting for both the private sector and the council. In January 2020 Phil returned to the UK, and is now back on board with A C Gardens completing the family package.
James Arthur
Director
James is the eldest of the Arthur brothers and has 25 years’ experience working in landscaping, fencing and tree surgery. His early experience came from working on the country estate his farther managed, before moving to work for a Chelsea Flower Show award winning landscaper. James started working with his brother Phil in 2001 and took the business over in 2007, when his brother left for New Zealand. In his spare time James is a keen rugby man, playing most of his career for the Worthing Raiders where he is now the Raiders forwards coach.
Tony Arthur
Owner
Tony worked for 30 years as the manager of a country estate in Mid Sussex while James and Phil were growing up, and during this time he developed a love for the countryside. Tony gained his qualifications in tree surgeon with a special interest in horticulture and fruit production, he took an active roll in the business from the get go and when the family moved to Findon in 2011, he joined full time. Tony plays an active part in the community volunteering for the Sheep Fair and working in conjunction with the Parish council. He is very proud of his boys and all the family have achieved with AC Gardens.
